[stringtemplate-interest] Caching (precompiling?)

Greetings,

StringTemplateGroup loads templates only once. Does it precompile the
templates, or does it merely try to avoid excessive disk operations?

In other words, what do I lose if I set the refresh interval to zero? Any
decent server operating system performs filesystem caching, there should be
no significant performance hit caused by frequent reading.

I’m using ST 3.1 for Python.
