[stringtemplate-interest] accept simple expression language

I've been following this discussion - I'm just another ST user and I  
appreciate the strict separation. It's why I chose ST over the  
alternatives.

Do you already have a large user base writing ST templates? What is  
the reason you can't switch to another framework or insert a  
transformation step into your process (as someone else suggested) ?
