State Qualifier Race
Description
The first major triathlon ever held in downtown Portland, Oregon welcomes you to its second annual. Swim beneath the signature bridges, ride amongst the steel and concrete giants, run through parks and paths teeming with urban life.Sustainable practices are incorporated into all aspects of race production: energy, equipment, awards, food, and waste.
Power comes completely from solar energy; shirts and bike racks are made of bamboo; waste is minimized through extensive recycling and composting; awards are crafted locally from recycled bicycle tubes and cogs. The principles held by sponsors and event partners support the race - the food is organic and the beer is locally brewed.
In 2007, the triathlon became the first major sporting event in the country to host a naturopathic medical tent. We aim to build on this foundation in 2008 by continuing to practice responsible race production.
In 2008 the event will be part of Portland first annual RiverFest, a weekend-long event celebrating the river coursing through this city. A wide variety of activities will be available for the family, culminating in the triathlon on Sunday morning.
